Introduction

Sunday, February 2, 2014
At lunch on Sunday with Betty and Joyce, two long-time friends, Betty laid down a challenge for Joyce and me: Clean out one box or one drawer a day and report our progress back to her at our next lunch in April. Both Joyce and I are keepers -- we have years worth of treasures and trash. Betty, on the other hand, is an organizer to be envied and such an inspiration to us.

I decided to take up the challenge but knew I would need some method of accountability -- thus this blog for me to report my progress, both verbally and in photos in daily (hopefully!) updates.

My first target was the roll-top desk in my living room. With all the drawers and cabinets closed, it looks quite presentable. But inside, it was a different matter -- papers and clutter shoved every which way.
I first tackled the inside of the roll-top section of the desk -- the before and after photos are shown below. To my delight, I found a long-lost gift card to a restaurant -- I'll see if it's still good.

Next came the long drawer that extends across the desk.

Next came the cabinet section, with the help of my cats Kole and Taylor.

.Next came the top drawer on the right side.

And finally, the bottom drawer on the right side, which I made into a drawer where Chase can store his crayons and coloring books and papers.
